CJ Gets Rich....AGAIN!
Jets Re-up Johnson

The New York Jets spent some of their 70+ million dollars in cap room today, coming to terms with the face of their franchise and using their Franchise Tag. Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson, who just finished his 7 year mega deal that was signed when he was drafted, signed on the dotted line with the Jets once again. The 28 year old All-Pro, All-World, wideout is coming off of making more than 67 million dollars and that's not counting the numerous sponsorships and endorsement deals. The new contract? Well, it's less than his first deal, which surprised many around the RZL. Instead of testing the Free Agent waters and guaranteeing himself a max contract, the man they call CJ signed what seems to be a hometown discount. The new 7 year deal calls for 16.59 million dollars in guaranteed money and could be worth a total of 59.8 million dollars if he plays out the contract.

General Manager Matt Spencer had the following comments after announcing the deal;
"Pure class. CJ comes in with his agent and isn't demanding the richest contract in league history. As an organization, we were ready to give him whatever he desired. He knows what he's worth, but he also knows that winning is important. He made it clear to myself and our ownership that his goal is to win a Super Bowl. CJ thinks we can do that here and knows that by taking less money than what he could earn on the open market will help us achieve that goal."

The Jets also used their Franchise Tag on Kicker Mason Crosby. Crosby wasn't too pleased about the lack of financial security, but also didn't seem to be bearing any grudges. His comments;
"More than 5 million? Hell yeah! I'm a Kicker, I know I'm not supposed to make that much money in a year. But hell, I'm as solid as they come, so I better be next in line to get a long deal. Even if some people don't think we're football players, we're still prone to injury, and to get the financial security that comes with a big deal, that's huge. Rules are rules I guess, I just hope that my day is coming."

After announcing these two moves, Spencer also announced that the team had placed Free Agent tenders on Tight End Kellen Winslow and Punter Michael Koenen. Other teams in the RZL can make offers to these players, but the Jets retain the right to match any offer.
